ASTM D785
The ASTM D785 is the foremost standard for the testing of the Rockwell hardness scales. It is a trusted test of indentation hardness which ensures precise and accurate results no matter the material. ASTM D785 determines the net increase in depth of the indentor using a specified minor load and then increasing it to a major load before decreasing it back to the minor load. With every division of the Rockwell scale measuring 0.002 mm (0.00008 in) penetration, it can easily identify the depth.
